- Provide diagnostic and therapeutic medical care and services. - Assess patients referred to the MSS by reviewing medical records, interpreting radiographs and performing the appropriate musculoskeletal evaluation. - Recognize routine and emergent conditions inherent to the specialty of orthopedic surgery. - Order routine laboratory tests, imaging studies (to include X-rays, MRIs, bone scans, CT scans) and is able to interpret results. - Prescribe medication approved by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. - Assist orthopedic surgeon in the Operating Room with minor surgical procedures. - Evaluate soldiers for retention. - Work independently and communicate closely with Orthopedic MD via phone, email or other forms of electronic communication. PERFORMS OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED Conditions of Employment - Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. - A Personnel Security Investigation is required. - Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption. - This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing. - Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position. - Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS. - Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
