Job Description

The Cardiothoracic Surgery NP has clinical, procedural, administrative and educational responsibilities in the care of adult patients requiring cardiac and thoracic surgery. Under the supervision of the Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery and the Heart & Vascular Director of Advanced Practice Nursing, the Cardiothoracic Surgery NP will have a critical role in the inpatient setting, with both team member and individual duties. These responsibilities will include preoperative and postoperative patient examination and assessment, diagnosis and planning; treatment implementation, coordination and continuity; performance of specific procedures; development of practice protocols and evaluation of quality of care; education of patients, families and other health care practitioners.

Required Qualifications :
  • Minimum one (1) years of cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery, cardiology, or critical care ICU NP experience
  • Possesses the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to successfully perform the duties of the assigned position
  • Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations and in varying schedules as outlined

License/Certification :
  • California driver's license (CDL) if required for position
  • Must hold current national certification from an accepted certifying agency and provide by first day of work.
    • Accepted Certifications for this position: ACNP-BC, AGACNP-BC, ACNPC-AG, ACNPC
  • Must hold a current and active RN and NP and Furnishing license in California
  • Must have completed a BRN recognized graduate master's degree program as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Must obtain an active and/or transferable DEA license to California and provide evidence by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is theresponsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).
  • Must have submitted enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by first clinical day. CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments
  • Must hold current AHA BLS as minimum requirement
  • Must hold current AHA BLS as minimum requirement
  • State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice
  • Incumbents with less than 6 months of NP experience will be hired as a Nurse Practitioner 1

UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
